MX

An overview of reported cluster beacons and channel markers in November.

See also the pirate stations section.

Cluster beacons:

All cluster beacons (D, P, S, C, A, F, K, M) have been reported on one or more cluster frequencies.

For decades dxers are guessing where the cluster beacons exactly are located. At least two locations for each beacon are being mentioned.

A couple of weeks ago I received a note that "S" is actually located in Murmansk and not in Arkhangelsk. I can remember that both are in the list. I must have it somewhere but cannot find it at the moment.

M08

Lots of V02 and M08 logs this month. The station is active as ever.

See the logs section for more details.

Mark Slaten sent the following note to the mailing list about the sloppy transmissions.

Hi List:

Welcome to "Castro's Cuban Follies"!

Anyone else out there noticing the increase in foul ups by Castro's radio operators? They must have fired all the former operators and hired new ones, for less pay. Or maybe they sent all the operator jobs offshore. I think the Cuban operators outdid themselves in the screw-up department today. Late starts galore. Skeds not coming up at all. At 2200z, the operator matching the wrong freq with the two M8a skeds that come on air. And the 2300z M8a was a no-show. (I probably had about 5 to 6 other no-shows today.) One thing about the Cubans, they just keep finding more ways to screw up.

The Chinese military markers were widely heard this month. Here is a compilation of the reports that were submitted by a number of monitors.

  1. This one is a bit odd. I wonder if this is a hick-up. I would expect YA6X instead of TA6EU. 5 character calls are normally not being used.
  2. Pseudo M89: thought to be a M89 variant but Igor now suggest that the signal might not originate from China but from one of the SE Asian countries. DFs are most welcome folks!!
